Fire Safety in Arizona: What You Need to Know
Arizona’s climate creates unique fire risks that homeowners should be aware of year-round. Here are some additional fire safety considerations specific to our region.
- Monsoon Season Lightning: Arizona’s monsoon season brings frequent lightning strikes that can ignite fires quickly. Make sure your smoke detectors are working before storm season begins each summer.
- Wildfire Risk: Homes near desert brush or wooded areas in Arizona face elevated wildfire risk. Create a defensible space by clearing dry vegetation at least 30 feet around your home.
- Heat and Electrical Equipment: Extreme summer heat puts added stress on electrical systems and appliances. Have your AC unit and electrical panel inspected annually to reduce fire risk.
- Garage Fires: Garages are one of the most common places for house fires to start. Never store gasoline, propane, or other flammable materials near heat sources or electrical panels.
- BBQ Safety: Outdoor grilling is popular in Arizona nearly year-round. Keep grills at least 10 feet from your home and never leave them unattended while in use.
